The Six A's of Adventure

These will help you get into the adventure habit:

1) attitude: Gilbert Keith Chesterton said, "An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. An inconvenience is only an adventure wrongly considered." With a simple change in attitude, even trials can be seen as adventures.

2) adaptability: life will throw you changes, learn to be spontaneous and see the new adventure opened to you.

3) act like well-known adventurers: think of any adventure character or historical figure. Would they have had the adventure if they spent all their free time sitting in front of the tv? Take the opportunity.

4) Activate your inner child: we all need to PLAY. Look at things from a child's perspective.

5) Accessible: look at what is nearby. Play tourist in your own area.

6) Affordable: picnics and cheaper motels leave money for more adventures. Keep a look out for cheap/free events.

Tell us what you've done!

Making Time

If you don't make time in your busy life to be a little adventurous, it won't become a habit, and before you know it you'll be the kind of person that lets new opportunity pass you by.

Here's what we recommend:

  • daily--try to get out of your routine or outside your comfort zone (it doesn't have to be huge!)
  • weekly--get outside and do something unsual or seasonal, something you don't do all year.
  • monthly--day trips, explore new territory
  • quarterly--schedule something daunting, that pushes you a little past your comfort point (you know what is daunting for you: speed, heights, groups)
  • yearly--1) an annual vacation, 2)take on a new "dream" project
